Bryson DeChambeau’s Major Championship Wins
2020 US Open at Winged Foot
DeChambeau’s first major title came at the 2020 US Open held at Winged Foot Golf Club in Mamaroneck, New York. This victory was nothing short of dominant. While most competitors struggled with the course’s brutal rough and narrow fairways, DeChambeau leveraged his aggressive power game to overpower the field. He finished at 6 under par, winning by six strokes over Matthew Wolff.
This win showcased his unique philosophy of attacking par-5s and long par-4s with sheer distance rather than precision placement. His average driving distance during the tournament was among the highest ever recorded at a US Open. The victory cemented his reputation as a new kind of professional golfer who prioritized power and data-driven strategy over traditional shot shaping.
2024 US Open at Pinehurst No. 2
DeChambeau’s second major triumph arrived at the 2024 US Open held at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina. This victory was arguably even more thrilling than his first. He defeated Rory McIlroy in a heart-pounding final round, finishing at 6 under par to claim the title by a single stroke.
The win was particularly significant because McIlroy had been widely considered the favorite coming into the weekend. DeChambeau’s clutch putting and fearless driving under pressure on Sunday elevated his status among the game’s elite. Many golf analysts ranked this performance among the best final-round displays in US Open history.
The 2024 US Open victory also marked DeChambeau’s return to the PGA Tour spotlight after his notable move to LIV Golf in 2022. He became one of the few LIV Golf players to compete in and win a major championship during this era of professional golf.
